FANTASY FORMULA 1 WITH THE POPPS (AND ALSO ALONSO)

  • GBR goes HAM

Hamilton pulls off an unexpected win and is probably still crying about it. In a good way.

As far as our matchups go, we are halfway through the season, we witnessed the first of two thrilling rounds where teams squared off against their closest rivals in the standings. This unique format guaranteed some electrifying matchups!

Let’s Go Motor Racing (Michael) vs. Little Old Lady From… (Ray Deen)
Michael’s team put up a valiant effort with Norris and Alonso leading the charge. Despite their best efforts, Ray Deen’s team, powered by Verstappen and Hulk, clinched the win with a score of 178 to 163.

Concertina Turner (Josiah) vs. Heff Fwaun (Mark)
Josiah’s team, featuring PIA and RUS, put up a respectable fight but stumbled due to penalties. Mark’s squad, highlighted by Verstappen and Tsunoda, cruised to victory, scoring 187 to Josiah’s 155.

Don’t Push My Jenson (Kellee) vs. Got in there. (Joe)
Kellee’s team struggled to find their rhythm with Norris and Russell, falling short with a score of 138. Joe’s team, led by Norris and Red Bull Racing, had an impressive showing, winning with 171 points.

Walk a Mile in My Shoey (Len) vs. Hope all teams have fun (Monique)
Len’s team, with Verstappen and OCO, performed well but got penalized, resulting in a score of 159. Monique’s team, driven by PIA and BOTTAS, delivered an outstanding performance, topping the round with 190 points.

PoleLessCrew (Christina) vs. Can You Win A Race Fernandooo (Sara)
Christina’s team, featuring Verstappen and Norris, couldn’t keep up, ending with 131 points. Sara’s team, despite strong performances from Norris and Gasly, narrowly lost with a score of 129.

Thanks But No Planks (Tom) vs. Lil Smeardy (Lucie)
Tom’s team secured a win with steady performances from Norris and Sargeant, scoring 148. Lucie’s team, featuring Verstappen and Ricciardo, struggled and ended at the bottom with 123 points.

    Final Thoughts
This round has really shaken up the standings, with Monique and Mark making impressive climbs. Every team showed resilience, but the battle for the top is far from over. As we head into the next Grand Prix, the excitement is palpable! Stay tuned for more twists, turns, and surprising upsets! 🏁

  • Round 11 in Austria

    Recap provided by Alonso.

  • The Race in Spain was Mainly Dull and Plain

Those first few laps were great, but after that it was nap time until the end when Norris and Leclerc almost caught who they were chasing… but they didn’t.

Leave it our league to show the F1 guys how drama is done! Margins of victory were microscopic this round with the largest being 23 points, and the narrowest was 3 measly points!

Let’s start by pointing out the heartbreakers that come with the close contests… “Don’t Push My Jensen” (Kellee) finished “on the podium” with the 3rd highest score of the week. But instead of celebrating a win, she ended up losing to the highest score of the week by “Poleless Crew” (Christina) who is recovering from a shaky start to the season by lining up 3 straight wins.

Speaking of heartbreak, “Got in there.” (Joe) took a 10 point penalty for an extra roster swap, but then lost by 3 to another late br(e)aker, “Lil Smeardy” (Lucie) who has won 2 straight.

The top 4 teams in the standings all managed to win in Spain. The newest member of which is “Heff Fwuan” (Mark), who seems to have recovered from HAASmaggedon in Monaco.

But I’ve saved the biggest heartbreak for last. We knew when we changed to a head to head format that things wouldn’t necessarily line up with the official F1 Fantasy site, but we… had… no… idea. Our points leader sits in 12th place — out of 12 teams. Yep, “Thanks But No Planks” (Tom) has lost 7 in a row, but it’s not for a lack of scoring. Seems people like playing chips against our reigning champ. But even through the chip was on the other foot (Tom played his autopilot card, which had no affect), and he scored a good lot of points (he was tied for 5th in points for the week), that couldn’t stop the streak. But fear not, we’re not even to the midway point of the season yet!

But while we’re talking about progress. Wouldn’t it be cool to know how everyone doing with their budgets?

  • DNF eh?

The Canadian Grand Prix was one for the books, marked by torrential rain and an unprecedented number of DNFs that left many teams low on points. The race was a challenge, and it showed in the results.

“Let’s go motor racing” (Michael) kept the top spot in the standings, and “Little old lady from…” (Ray Deen) picked a great week to play her No Negative chip as points were hard to come by, especially if you had anything red (or Williams-colored) on your team.

“PolelessCrew” (Christina) and “Lil Smeardy” (Lucie) took advantage of their opponents’ misfortune and both notched Ws. While “Got in there.” (Joe) barely won the battle of lousy rosters.

“Heff Fwuan” (Mark) used his biggest weakness from Monaco as his biggest strength this weekEND as Haas’ early wet tire strategy allowed them to score a ton of points with all of the on-track passes they made early. He knocked off a good team in “Don’t Push My Jensen” (Kellee) for the win.

I think this was a week that most of us wanted to forget, even though it was a very entertaining race to watch!

  • Monaco Hit Parade

I had a hunch, when they kept talking about how boring this race was gonna be, that something crazy was gonna happen. So much lap 1 drama! Then, even though it was a parade, the tire situation made it a bit more interesting. In the end, the home boy Monegasque, Charles Leclerc, finally got his Monaco win.

The winner, seen here being soaked in bubbly by Monte Carlos Sainz.

But again, that’s only half the story as we turn to our matchups! Two teams played their No Negative chip, and “Heff Fwuan” (Mark) apparently played an All Negative chip. His team’s total points for the race were -87. (Has anyone heard from Mark? We should make sure he’s okay.) He’s been doing well all season with Haas, but last WeeKEND that ended on lap 1 with both cars DNFing. Needless to say, he lost his matchup with “Walk a Mile in my Shoey” (Len), who actually could have won without any points. Ouch!

“Little Old Lady From…” (Ray Deen) slipped from the top spot down to third after a tough loss to “Got in there.” (Joe). Joe’s team, with a solid 154 points, climbed one spot to eighth in the standings notching just his 3rd win this season.

“Let’s Go Motorracing” (Michael) played his No Negative chip but didn’t end up needing it after besting “Don’t Push My Jensen” (Kellee) in an inter-house battle. Michael takes over 1st place by tie-breaking points with the win.

But hot on his heels is “Concertina Turner” (Josiah) who had an amazing week, even though he had a Haas driver on his team! His 212 points were more than enough to beat “Hope All Teams Have Fun” (Monique), who wanted to put Leclerc in for her x2 driver, but was too sleepy and decided to go to bed. Can’t say I blame her.

“Can You Win a Race Fernandoooo” (Sara) eked out a win against “Thanks but No Planks” (Tom), with a close score of 220 to 194. She owes it all to her playing her No Negative chip. Since she has Hulkenberg AND Haas, she would have been done for, but because she played that chip, she avoided getting 105 negative points! Sara and Tom are streaking in different directions as Sara wins her third straight win, and Tom has now lost 5 in a row!

Down at the end of the standings it was PolelessCrew (Christina) vs. Li’l Smeardy (Lucie) and it was Lucie’s birthday weekend. Christina tried her best to gift the win, but ultimately it was Lucie’s constructors that let her down. Still, it came down to 5 points! Happy Birthday!

  • Forever Senna!

It wasn’t the most exciting race… well, almost at the end thanks to a lot of hopeful drama. At any rate it was cool to see all of the Senna celebrations citing the 30th anniversary of his passing at this track. But enough about real life… It was another wild week in our fantasy Formula One league, here’s the scoop:

    Matchup Madness:

PoleLessCrew vs. Let’s Go Motorracing: Michael’s Let’s Go Motorracing team cruised to a 165-144 victory over Christina’s PoleLessCrew. Despite a 10-point penalty, Michael’s squad zoomed ahead, leaving Christina to ponder what went wrong.

Got in there. vs. Concertina Turner: Josiah’s Concertina Turner team absolutely crushed it with a whopping 182 points, leaving Joe’s Got in there. team in the dust with just 126 points. Joe might need a new strategy—or a new team.

Hope all teams have fun vs. Heff Fwuan: Mark’s Heff Fwuan team decided to show no mercy, racking up 184 points and defeating Monique’s Hope all teams have fun, who managed 140 points. Monique, maybe the team name didn’t help this time.

Little Old Lady From… vs. Lil Smeardy: Ray Deen’s Little Old Lady From… team brought the heat with 168 points, leaving Lucie’s Lil Smeardy team far behind at 113 points. Looks like the “little old lady” had some serious racing chops!

Thanks But No Planks vs. Don’t Push My Jenson: In a nail-biter, Kellee’s Don’t Push My Jenson edged out Tom’s Thanks But No Planks, 169-154. Tom, better luck next time—maybe push that Jenson just a bit more.

Walk a Mile in my Shoey vs. Can You Win A Race Fernandoooo: This matchup had some serious drama! Sara’s Can You Win A Race Fernandoooo team took a comfortable win with 163 points over Len’s Walk a Mile in my Shoey, who scored 143 points. But here’s the kicker—Len took a 20-point penalty. Without it, they would have tied! Talk about a tough break.

    Standings Shake-Up:

Ray Deen’s Little Old Lady From… team is on top of the world (and the standings) with a stellar 6-1 record and a .857 win percentage. She’s on a four-win streak and shows no signs of slowing down. Michael’s Let’s Go Motorracing and Kellee’s Don’t Push My Jensen are hot on her heels, though, so watch out!

Meanwhile, Josiah’s Concertina Turner and Mark’s Heff Fwuan made some impressive jumps this week, proving they’re forces to be reckoned with.

    Points Bonanza:

Mark’s Heff Fwuan team snagged the most points this round with a cool 184. Josiah’s Concertina Turner wasn’t far behind with 182, and Kellee’s Don’t Push My Jenson rounded out the top three with 169 points.

That’s all for now, folks! Check some of the new features on our site like standings rank changes results, more stats on team profile pages, and standings per round! Until next time, keep those engines running and the points rolling in!
